Chiaroscuro Collective (CC)

Subclasses: Infiltrator or Shadow-Walker (IN/SW)

AI Holodrone (AIHD)

If, in your early education or employment you have gained any points in ‘Computer’, replace it with ‘Infiltrate’ as this supplants the skill for this class and should be used whenever any computer check is required.

Background: The primary business of the CC is that of taking contracts to retrieve, reclaim, infiltrate, sabotage and either ‘Remove’ or ‘Obtain’ individuals or data objects from systems or corporations. Active CC ‘Contracts’ are taken for a duration of one year with a minimum of one week between contract renewals, frequently inciting a flurry of activity. Extremely costly ‘Preventative’ or Static contracts are frequently taken out by corporations to protect them from espionage or sabotage, and also by individuals as a precaution against ‘Removal’. If an existing static contract is in place and someone requests an ‘Activity’ against them, the identity is provided to the client (for a fee, naturally) and an opportunity for the issue to be resolved can be brokered by the CC on their behalf (again, chargeable). Many unpleasant incidents across the Imperium have been avoided in this way, and due to the influence of the CC terrorism has virtually vanished apart from truly insane fringe groups who might still be inclined to check with the CC for an existing prevention contract (again, chargeable) before attempting any action. Many have learnt to their misfortune that there are, indeed, fates far worse than death(See reference: ENI; Extended Neural Induction-an eternity of virtual hell in minutes). A percentage from every transaction also goes into an ‘Open Bounty’ fund for any entity attempting to or succeeding in breaking or infringing a contract, with a message being sent out to all operatives authorizing appropriate punishment. All operatives are allowed to take part in this activity, always followed by the legendary post-operation ‘Bounty Party’. The sub-faction of Bounty-Hunters are the only other ones invited to join in this activity, as although many of them are ex-CC members that have left the organization and instead opted for a more open lifestyle, they quite often have inroads to locations and information that is unique to each individual. Both subclasses wear the ubiquitous CC’s AP-Camo (Adaptive-Predictive camouflage) stealthsuit that provides either avoidance or cloaking as specified by their subclass, as well as a toxin reservoir that allows tox/chem to be added to melee and weapon strikes. Vibranium edged hand and footwear allow both subclasses additional close-combat attacks with damage starting at 1d6+½Agi dmg (Hand and Foot; H/F in class table).

Infiltrators

katana, samurai, sword, japanese, blade, raindrops, steel, craftsmanship, damascus, edge, weapon, close-up, detail, precision, art, nature, tradition, water, wet, metallic, handle, warrior, ancient, culture, design, rain, ai generated
Damascinium Katana

This subclass focusses on espionage and infiltration roles, excelling at bait and trap situations. When engaging in combat they use their Damascinium katanas to cut, slash, parry and upon striking slice through most armor with ease, ignoring any damage reduction their opponents armor would normally give (there are exceptions to this rule).

Shadow Walkers

A striking still life of a medieval sword wrapped in red silk, set against a black background.
Phasing Misericord

These individuals are called upon to perform sabotage and ‘removals’, with their suits Phasing Misericord stabbing blade able to penetrate shields and matter to strike targets through walls, floors, ceilings etc. which greatly simplifies this task.

Tox/Chem is a skill that allows you to inflict additional damage to a target, as well as a possible debuff to that targets AR & DR as noted in the Tox/Chem skill. This damage increases as you gain more points in this skill and becomes even more debilitating as you gain master ranks. The amount of time you are able to inflict this additional damage each day is equal to your points in this skill. Both subclasses are able to apply this effect to their weapon or their Hands or Feet, triggering only on a successful hit. If an attack would cause 2x or 3x the Tox/Chem damage, this counts towards your usages per day and your AIHD can not inflict it on your behalf. When you do reach MR 3 in Tox/Chem, your skill with these materials is such that your base Tox/Chem damage is now doubled, drastically increasing your overall damage potential.

Note: The Katana and Misericord are both vibroblade class weapons and are referred to as such in the term completion bonus table of the character generation process.

AI Holodrone (AIHD)

Default starting config for OFECT crystal matrix

All agents have access to an Autonomous Holodrone composed of proprietary virtually indestructible Octarinium Force-Effect Crystal Tetrahedrons (64 individual OFECT crystals) that when charged and assembled in a particular order provide a substantial ally to the operative, allowing ranged combat and other functions such as computer system infiltration, distraction and even detonation depending on the Agents subclass. Once the AIHD energy shield and Field Integrity (represented by the FI column) is depleted the matrix collapses and the crystals fall to the ground, able to be re-formed by the operative through meditative re-assembly of the holomatrix during a standard overnight rest period. The shape of each drone is as unique to the operative as a fingerprint and ranges from spinning geometrical shapes to writhing snake-like forms. They can also deform on the fly if desired to pass through small spaces or temporarily restrain weaker creatures or medium sized objects.
